Hollidaysburg teams to face off in doubles final

It will be an all-Hollidaysburg championship match today in the District 6 Class 3A Doubles Tennis Tournament.
Hollidaysburg Area No. 2 seed Veronica Helsel and Jenee Delerme and No. 3 seed Chloe Love and Payton Ruggery each advanced through the semifinals on Wednesday at the Gorilla House Gym.
Love and Ruggery upset the No. 1 seeded and defending champion team of Lindsey Hallinan and Maura Skelley of Altoona in the semifinals, 7-5, 6-3.
Helsel and Delerme, last season’s runner-up, beat Central Mountain’s Jolee McCluskey and Kendall McCluskey, the No. 4 seed, in the semifinals, 6-3, 6-2.
The two Hollidaysburg entries will face each other at noon today at the Altoona Area High School Leopold Courts. If the weather doesn’t cooperate, the match will move to the Gorilla House Gym.
Also today at noon, Central Cambria No. 1 seed Olivia Ratchford and Liza Brady will face Westmont Hilltop No. 2 seed Lindsay Pullin and Abby Majercsik for the 2A crown.

Ruhlman wins title
BEDFORD — Sophomore Emily Ruhlman captured the District 5 Class 2A singles tennis championship on Tuesday at Bedford Area High School.
Ruhlman defeated Chestnut Ridge’s Payton Whysong in the finals, 6-3, 7-6, after beating Windber’s Emilee Stinson in the semifinals, 10-3, and Ridge’s Vanessa Hyde in the quarterfinals, 10-1.
