Cornell, May pace Bedford

H.S. cross country

JOHNSTOWN — Bedford’s Garret Cornell and Van May finished in first and second place, respectively, to help lift the Bisons boys to a 22-35 win over Richland in high school cross country on Wednesday.

The Bisons fell short against Windber, 28-31. Tyler Napara and Matt Shank of Windber and Cole Caz of Richland rounded out the boys’ top five.

In girls action, Bedford was able to defeat both Windber, 15-47, and Richland, 15-50, thanks to the trio of Leah Davidson, Claudia Sigel and Racheal Feaster taking the top three places. Izza Kern of Richland took fourth, and Bedford’s Ashley Ferguson finished in fifth.

Forest Hills sweeps

CRESSON — Forest Hills swept Penn Cambria in both boys, 21-35, and girls, 19-42, competition.

The Rangers’ Mitch Chunta broke a course record, winning the boys’ race in 16:17. Neil Sutton finished third for the Panthers in 17:35.

On the girls’ side, Forest Hills’ Emily Montag won in 19:55, and Mel Stasik was fourth for Penn Cambria in 22:09.

Portage’s Kasey Chobany finished third in 21:21 despite not having a team score counted.
