Altoona, BG don’t advance

H.S. girls volleyball

STATE COLLEGE — Altoona finished third out of five teams with a 4-4 record in afternoon pool play Saturday at the State College Little Lion Invitational after a 1-5 start in the morning action in high school girls volleyball.

Altoona split with Warrick (10-15, 15-11) and Coneaut (11-15, 15-12) before falling to Southern Lehigh (15-8, 15-11) and defeating Bishop Guilfoyle (15-9, 15-10) to round out the day.

Maddie Benton had 36 assists for Altoona and Emily Albright had 34. Brigid Fox finished with 16 kills and 39 digs, Kaila Clawson had 49 digs, and Kenzie Kirwin had 26 kills and 37 digs.

BG missed out on the playoffs, too. BG finished morning pool play with a 1-7 record followed by 2-6 record in the afternoon.

BG statistical leaders were Kylee Gooding (34 kills, 10 points), Beth Yahner (18 points, 18 kills and 20 digs), Gabby Krug (62 assists and 11 points) Pam Lund (10 points and 12 kills), Emily Brown (21 digs), Teresa Haigh (11 kills), Alicia Nicolini (10 digs) and Emily Kasun (10 assists).

Tigers jayvees second

HUNTINGDON — The Hollidaysburg junior varsity girls volleyball team finished as the runner-up at the Bearcat Invitation Volleyball Tournament, losing to Huntingdon, 17-25, 26-24, 15-12, in the championship.

The Lady Tigers went 6-0 in pool play and defeated Mount Union, 25-18, in the semifinals.

Lauren Simpson and Reagan Ferguson (78 assists) each had 11 aces. Jordyn Wagner notched 18 kills, and Sydney McGinnis had 58 digs.
