LANDISVILLE — Hollidaysburg defeated Hempfield, 4-1, behind singles wins from Jenee Delerme and Payton Ruggery in high school girls tennis on Saturday.

In doubles competition, Paige Jodon and Chloe Love won at No. 1, and Jenna Sheetz and Abigail Goodman won at No. 2.

SINGLES: Hagino, HE, def. Helsel, 6-0, 6-2; 2, Delerme, HO, def. Jackson, 6-1, 6-1; 3, Ruggery, HO, def. Ulrich, 6-4, 6-1.

Hollidaysburg wins

TYRONE — Connor Pielmeier scored two goals and added an assist as the Hollidaysburg boys soccer team downed Tyrone, 4-1.

The Golden Tigers, up 3-1 at halftime, also got a goal and an assist from Dominic Daily while improving to 5-3. Tyrone (4-4) got its lone goal from Corey Johnston.

Tiarnan Ferry scored a pair of goals, as Williamsport shut out Altoona, 5-0, in boys soccer. The Lions slipped to 4-2-1.

Noah Adams and Kyle Godin scored goals for the Mounties.

Altoona places fifth

CLARION — The Altoona girls volleyball team finished fifth out of 17 teams in the Lady Bobcat Invitational held at Clarion High School.

Altoona went 4-5. In morning pool play, Altoona beat Franklin, 25-14, Huntingdon, 25-18, and Butler, 25-21, while losing to Coudersport, 25-24.

In afternoon pool play, Altoona beat Coudersport, 25-4, but lost to DuBois, 25-23, Clarion, 25-24, and Northern Cambria, 25-17.

In the playoffs, Cambridge Springs bested the Lady Spikers, 25-21.

Kenzie Kirwin led Altoona with 23 kills and 14 service points to go with 34 assists and 23 service points from Emily Albright. Brittany Chestney added 26 service points, Ireland McClellan chipped in with 10 blocks, and Kaila Clawson contributed 61 digs and 20 service points.

Tigers finish second

JOHNSTOWN — Hollidaysburg’s junior varsity girls volleyball team was the runner-up to Forest Hills after losing, 26-24, 26-24, in the final of the Hilltopper JV Invitational.

Hollidaysburg defeated North Star, 25-20, 25-18, Richland, 25-23, 25-18. and Johnstown, 25-18, 25-14, in the first round.

In the second round, Hollidaysburg defeated North Star, 25-11, lost to Richland, 25-22, and topped Johnstown, 25-17.

In the quarterfinals, the Lady Tigers topped Westmont Hilltop, 25-18, and in the semifinals, they beat Cambria Heights, 25-20.

Allison Barton had 35 service points, Izzy George contributed 15 kills, Sydney McGinnis had 39 digs, and Reagan Ferguson had 58 assists.
