Blair County Oil sweeps Star Beverage; Lilly wins

ASHVILLE — Blair County Oil swept Star Beverage in an Altoona Greater City Baseball League doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.

Blair County Oil won the first game, 21-0, in five innings.

In the second game, Blair County Oil had two doubles from Christian Helsel and two hits each from Ty Zimmerman and Mason Watson for a 10-1 win.

Jared Prugar and Watson split pitching duties with Prugar picking up the win. Donny Gochnaur had Star Beverage’s lone RBI on the afternoon, while Morgan Litzinger had three hits.

ASHVILLE — Sheetz pulled away in a 9-9 game with four runs in the top of the sixth inning to down Platinum Wealth Strategies.

Chris Tromm led Sheetz with two hits and three RBIs, Marcus Novosel had two hits, and Kyle DeGennaro and Jared Pufka each drove in two runs. Troy Brunner went the distance to earn the win.

Andrew Gressler and Jake Barton each had three hits for Platinum Wealth Strategies, Adam Sinisi delivered two hits and two RBIs, and Skyler Sloter and Brett Koelle each added two hits.

Johnston Realty took a doubleheader from Cumming Motors at Juniata to improve to 11-2 in the Altoona AAABA League.

Trenton Creppage homered, doubled and singled and drove in three runs for Johnston in a 7-2 win in the opener. Lennox Pugh, Frank Montecalvo and Sam Servello each had two hits, John Servello drove in two runs, and Mason Ronan struck out seven in three innings of relief to earn the win.

Dakota Byers collected two hits and two RBIs for Cumming.

In the completion of a suspended game, Adam Bankovich drove in two runs, and Pugh had two hits in Johnston’s 4-3 win.

Lilly advances

SOMERSET — Lilly went 2-0 to win the Somerset Regional of the Pennsylvania American Legion Division 2 tournament.

Luke Mento’s three-run homer in the sixth inning was part of a four-RBI day in the first game against Jeannette, an 8-0 win for Lilly. Tanner Perrone maxed out his pitch count in the game as the winning pitcher with 13 strikeouts. He, along with Braedon O’Donnell, had three hits, while Dallas Hite and Jonah Diehl each had two.

Lilly played a much closer game against Young Township in the second game. Brock Talko broke a 2-2 tie with an RBI double to bring home Perrone for the go-ahead run in the sixth that led to a 3-2 Lilly win.

Talko finished the day with three hits for Lilly, while Salvador Cabrera had two. Mento was the winning pitcher for Lilly with three strikeouts.

Lilly will play the winner of the Homer City regional on Monday, in Homer City, for the divison championship. Saturday’s action in Homer City was postponed to today due to poor field conditions.
