Szynal, 3 Tigers honored by CPL

Central Penn Baseball League champion Hollidaysburg was well represented in the 2017 league all-stars that were announced recently.

Hollidaysburg coach Jon Szynal was selected as the coach of the year, and Golden Tigers infielders Lennox Pugh and Cory Storm, and pitcher Sam Servello were named all-stars.

Altoona outfielder Elliot Mast was also chosen as an all-star for the second straight year.

Other stars were DuBois catcher Braden Paulinellie and infielder Nick LeBrasca, Williamsport infielder Jesse Cornell, pitcher Tanner Esposito and outfielders Quentin Brown and Elliott Walker, and St. Marys pitcher Nate Beimel.

The Altoona Lady Lions placed two players on the CPL softball all-star team. Pitcher Alexa Young was selected for the second year in a row, and catcher Lindsey Fasolo also made the first team.

Other softball stars were infielder Grace Aikens, infielder/pitcher Kylee Lingenfelter, outfielder Kim Shoemaker and coach Alan Pifer of league champ Punxsutawney, DuBois infielder Rachel Gildersleeve and outfielder Laura Fatula, and Williamsport infielder Cali Shields, outfielder Samantha Reeder and utility plaer Katie Meale.


n Penn State wrestler Zain Retherford was nominated for a 2017 ESPY Award. Retherford is up for the 2017 Best Male College Athlete honor, which will be announced during ESPN’s July 12 broadcast of the 2017 ESPYs.
