PSU women’s opponents set

University Park — On the heels of a 21-win campaign and an appearance in the third round of the WNIT, the Penn State women’s basketball program and coach Coquese Washington announced a 13-game non-conference slate, which includes six games played at the Bryce Jordan Center.

The breakdown of the schedule includes six home games, five true road contests and a pair of neutral site matchups. Five teams on the 2017-18 schedule advanced to the national postseason in 2016-17, while Manhattan is the lone newcomer on the schedule.

The Lady Lions will begin the 2017-18 campaign with a pair of games on their home floor, facing Siena of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference in the season opener on Friday, Nov. 10 before taking on Colonial Athletic Association member Drexel on Sunday, Nov. 12.

Four of the next five contests will take place away from the Bryce Jordan Center, with a pair of true road games and two neutral site contests bookending a matchup with Central Connecticut State from the Northeast Conference on Monday, Nov. 20 in Happy Valley. A trip to face Mid-American Conference foe Marshall is on tap for Wednesday, Nov. 15, while a date at Big East opponent Providence awaits on Saturday, Nov. 18.

The Lady Lions will head to Las Vegas for a pair of games in the South Point Shootout. Competition in the City of Lights will kick off on Friday, Nov. 24 vs. Kansas State and conclude the following day against Louisiana Tech.

Penn State will then participate in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge on either Nov. 29 or 30 against an opponent to be named later. A pair of home contests follow, as the Lions welcome MAAC foe Manhattan on Sunday, Dec. 3 and host Fordham for the third straight season on Wednesday, Dec. 6.

The non-conference slate closes with a three-game road swing, beginning on Saturday, Dec. 9 at St. Bonaventure. Following a break for finals, Penn State will turn its attention to a second ACC opponent in Pittsburgh on Sunday, Dec. 17, before closing the non-conference portion of the schedule against Patriot League contender American in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday, Dec. 20.

Pitt represented

PITTSBURGH — Pitt’s Jamel Artis and Michael Young signed contracts to play in the NBA Summer League following the 2017 NBA draft Thursday.

Artis will play with the Miami Heat in the Orlando (July 1-5) and Las Vegas (July 7-11) Summer Leagues, while Young will play with the Washington Wizards’ summer league team in Las Vegas.

Former Pitt standouts James Robinson and Brad Wanamaker will also be in NBA Summer League action. Robinson is slated to play for the San Antonio Spurs in Utah (July 3-6) and Las Vegas (July 7-11), while Wanamaker will play with the Oklahoma City Thunder in Orlando (July 1-5).

Elsewhere:

n Penn State women’s gymnastics coach Sarah Brown announced the addition of Dallas Becerra and Robert Drass to the coaching staff as assistant coaches. Becerra was an assistant coach under Brown last season at Eastern Michigan, while Brown was a student-athlete under Drass at Missouri from 2008-10.
