B-A sends Valley to first loss behind Padula, Kline

ALEXANDRIA — A three-run homer from Joey Padula in the first and another three-run homer from Sawyer Kline in the third gave Bellwood-Antis enough to hand the homestanding Juniata Valley High School baseball team its first loss of the season, 10-4, in an Inter-County Conference North Division contest on Thursday.

Kline, who got the pitching win for the Blue Devils, finished the day with three RBIs on two hits and struck out five batters while going 6ª innings. Padula scored twice with three RBIs, and Brendan Kowalski scored twice with an RBI.

Seth Derugen scored twice while going 2-for-4 for Juniata Valley, which dropped to 7-1. Bellwood-Antis improved to 5-4.

MORRISDALE — Cory Houck scattered seven hits, struck out eight and walked only one in helping Williamsburg win at West Branch.

Houck also helped himself out with three hits, two runs scored and an RBI. Teammate Silas Dishong added three hits and three RBIs in a game the Pirates scored six times in the fourth to break a 3-3 tie.

Dylan Baker added two hits and two RBIs for the winners, who also got two hits from Jared McCall.

PORTAGE — Portage totaled 28 hits and scored 31 runs in just eight innings in a twinbill sweep of Conemaugh Valley in two games called after four because of the mercy rule.

In game one, Portage won 15-0 behind winning pitcher Tyler Swires, who gave up one hit, struck out seven and walked no one. Jake Swank, Scott Petrunak and Richard Llewelyn each drove in three runs, with Swank and Llewelyn each collecting three hits.

In game two, Portage won 16-1 behind Petrunak, who scattered five hits over four innings. Swank had three hits and three RBIs to go with two RBIs each from Tom Randazzo and Zach Wiggins, who also added three hits.

The Mustangs improved to 7-2 while the Blue Jays fell to 2-8.
