Griffith wraps up collegiate career

Morgan Griffith, a Hollidaysburg graduate, wrapped up her college career at Shippensburg by scoring eight points and pulling down a game-high 16 rebounds, in a 63-51 loss to Mercyhurst in the first round of the Division II NCAA Atlantic Regionals recently.

Griffith finished third in school history with 1,157 rebounds and scored 1,437 points. She’s just the third player in school history to have both 1,000 points and rebounds. For her career, she averaged 10.0 rebounds and 12.4 points per game.

Shippensburg finished the season 24-7 and had a 19-game winnings streak.

Tyrone graduate Jacob Belinda was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference’s Pitcher of the Week for his efforts on the Lock Haven baseball team recently.

Belinda pitched six scoreless innings and allowed just four hits while striking out 12 in a win over West Virginia State.

Kaycie Reffner, an Altoona graduate, scored 10 points, had eight rebounds, three steals and three assists for the Presbyterian College women’s basketball team in a conference playoff victory over High Point. She also played 40 minutes in a one-point loss to conference champion UNC-Asheville in the semifinals.

Reffner finished her career as the all-time leader in games played at Presbyterian while the school has been in Division I.

Northern Cambria graduate Jeff Hogan led the Saint Francis men’s volleyball team with 25 kills and 10 digs in a 3-2 victory over Cal-Baptist on Saturday.
