Lauren Betar: Franciscan volleyball

College signing

Name: Lauren Betar

High school: Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic

Hometown: Altoona

Sport: Volleyball

Position: Libero

College choice: Franciscan University, Steubenville, Ohio

Other colleges considered: La Roche, Saint Francis

Why I picked Franciscan: “I picked Franciscan because of the overall atmosphere on campus. Along with furthering my education, I also want to deepen my Catholic faith, and I think I will be able to achieve that goal there. Getting to play volleyball at Franciscan is just a bonus for me.”

Greatest high school achievement: “Winning the D6 championship alongside my best friends.”

Coach Bob Kasun’s quote: “Lauren was at the center of our success for all of the great things that happened to this team. She performed at a very high level at libero. As a District 6 and Laurel Highlands Athletic all-star, she anchored our serve receive and defense, and was a great leader and captain. Franciscan is the perfect choice for Lauren for education, volleyball and to grow in her Catholic faith.”

How I got my start playing volleyball: “My older siblings played so it kind of fell into my lap.”

Favorite college growing up: Pitt

Other interests: Watching Netflix, eating buffalo chicken dip and hanging out with friends

What getting to play in college means to me: “I’m excited to be able to play my favorite sport competitively at the next level. I’m also excited that some of the games I’m going to play will be close to home so my grandma and rest of my family can come watch me play.”

Probable college major: Early education

Parents: Ann and Dennis Betar
