Sylne’s tally enough for Bisons
Bedford will play Everett in semis
BEDFORD — Senior Cleeford Sylne scored the only goal of the game early in the first half, leading fourth-seeded Bedford to a 1-0 victory over fifth-seeded West Shamokin in the quarterfinals of the District 6 Class 2A boys soccer playoffs Thursday evening at the Bedford Area High School field.
Sylne scored on an unassisted shot just 4:15 into the game, and Bedford (13-5-1) made the goal stand up.
Bedford advances to play top-seeded Everett, a 4-0 winner over Richland Thursday, in a semifinal matchup that is set for Monday night at 7:30 p.m. at Hollidaysburg’s Tiger Stadium.
Bedford enjoyed a considerable territorial and shots advantage on the night in a game in which one goal made all the difference.
“It was nice to get that early goal,” Bedford coach Barrett Schrock said. “We’re pretty solid defensively, and I knew that we got the lead, we would have a chance to win.”
Bedford held a 35-5 shots advantage over West Shamokin (12-4).
“We held possession 60 to 70 percent of the game,” Schrock said. “At the end of the day, if you win 1-0, you still advance.”
