Stevens, Hallinan advance
Altoona juniors to play in 3A final
It will be an all-Altoona final this morning in the District 6 Class 3A Singles Tennis Championships.
No. 2 seed Jessica Stevens, an Altoona junior, will take on No. 4 seed Lindsey Hallinan, also an Altoona junior, in the championship match at 10:30 a.m. at the Leopold Courts. The match will move to ProCare Health and Fitness if it rains.
On Friday, Hallinan knocked off defending champion and top-seeded Veronica Helsel of Hollidaysburg in the semifinals, 6-2, 6-2, while Stevens beat No. 3 seeded Jenee Delerme of Hollidaysburg, 6-1, 6-0.
“I am so happy for Jess and Lindsey,” Altoona coach Eric Hovan said. “Veronica and Jenee are both amazing players. Jess and Lindsey are such good friends. It will be fun to watch them play for the title.”
To get to the semifinals, Hallinan beat Marissa Torretti of DuBois, 6-1, 6-1, and Stevens topped Quinn McCluskey of Central Mountain, 6-0, 6-0.
Before today’s 3A final, Central Cambria senior Kourtney Cavalier will face unseeded Julia Schaffer of Central Cambria in the 2A final at 9 a.m. Cavalier is the three-time defending champion.

GC girls tie foe
The Great Commission School girls soccer team tied DuBois Christian, 2-2, at Leopold Field.
Sydney Neil and Haley Hatfield scored goals for Great Commission.
