STONE HARBOR, N.J. — Three local athletes each earned a spot on the podium earlier this year at the 21st annual Nun’s Beach Surf Invitational.

Kathryn Swope, a student at Hollidaysburg Area High School, took first place in the Divas Division at the competition, while Blake Slobodnik and his sister, Anastasia, students at Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic, each finished second in their respective divisions.

Blake took second in the Teens Division, and Anastasia was runner-up in the Betties Divison, as each of the three athletes worked for Stone Harbor Surf and Paddle as instructors at the surf camp.

Elsewhere:

n Pitt senior forward Michael Young is one of 20 watch list members for the 2017 Karl Malone Power Forward of the Year Award as announced by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

n Pitt senior football guard Dorian Johnson, who has helped the Panther football team rank among the most productive offenses in the country this season, was named to the ESPN.com Midseason All-America team.
