BG grad recognized by AMCC
Penn State Altoona women’s tennis freshman Brayley Lewis (Bishop Guilfoyle) was recently selected the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference’s Newcomer of the Year, as the league released its postseason all-conference team.
In addition to Lewis’ recognition as the top first-year player in the conference, senior Michelle Colucci was voted second team All-Conference in No. 1 singles, and freshman Annie Ruggles (Hollidaysburg) also earned second team All-AMCC status in No. 6 singles.
Lewis produced a strong freshman season for Penn State Altoona. She led the Lady Lions in singles wins, going 8-3 overall and 6-1 in the AMCC. Playing primarily in the No. 2 singles slot, Lewis went 7-3 overall there while winning her only No. 1 singles match. Her eight singles wins are tied for the third most in a single season in Penn State Altoona women’s tennis history.
In doubles, Lewis had the second-most wins on her team, going 8-4 overall and 5-2 against AMCC competition. Lewis teamed up with Colucci for 10 doubles matches in the No. 1 spot, and that duo combined to go 7-3 overall and 4-1 in the AMCC. Lewis’ eight doubles victories are tied for third on the Lady Lions’ single season doubles wins list.
Colucci was voted second team All-AMCC as a No. 1 singles player for the third time in four years. Joining Colucci on the second team All-AMCC squad is Ruggles, who was voted into that spot for her performance in No. 6 singles. Ruggles was second among No. 6 singles players in the AMCC in both overall wins and conference wins, going 5-2 overall and 4-1 against AMCC opponents in that slot.
Ruggles picked up one AMCC Player of the Week award from the AMCC during the season.
