PSU’s extension of Chambers curious

Recently, the college basketball ranks have been switching coaches like guys sometimes switch their underwear.

Coaches like Rick Barnes of Texas and Steve Lavin of St. John’s and others have or had winning records but were still replaced and will surely will be rehired as Barnes was at Tennessee.

At Penn State we seem to follow different trends, and instead of replacing losing coaches such as Jerry Dunn, Ed DeChellis, and now Pat Chambers, we extend their contracts.

I know Chambers is full of enthusiasm and is probably a good representative for the school, but a 16-56 record in the Big Ten and not even an NIT bid after a 12-1 start says a lot about his coaching.

No one wants to see anyone fired or relieved of their jobs, but what direction are the Nittany Lions heading in when an in-conference record is below a percentage of .200?

Belief in Hackenberg

I respect the heck out of Christian Hackenberg for a lot of reasons, but mostly because he stayed at Penn State when he could have bolted.

That’s something a weaker kid would have done. He’s strong and he’s loyal. But he has to make much better decisions this season.

I know he has it in him.
