PSU Altoona’s Warehem makes school history

Penn State Altoona senior men’s swimmer Jay Wareham has been named to the Honorable Mention category of the College Swimming Coaches Association of America’s Division III Scholar All-America team.

Wareham is the first Penn State Altoona men’s swimmer in program history to earn a spot on the CSCAA’s Scholar All-America squad.

At the conclusion of his junior year, Wareham held a 3.92 cumulative grade point average and has achieved no less than a 3.8 GPA in any of his semesters at Penn State Altoona. He was also named the school’s 2013-2014 Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year and was selected to the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference’s All-Academic Team.

Wareham also posted a successful season in the pool during his junior campaign. During February’s AMCC Championships, he earned first team All-Conference status in the 800 Yard Freestyle Relay, in which he was a member of the title-winning squad for the Lions. Wareham also qualified for the finals in two individual events – the 200 Yard IM and 100 Yard Freestyle – during the conference championships.

Juniata picked fifth

TOWSON, MD- The Landmark Conference released its 2014 preseason poll on Monday. The Juniata field hockey team was picked to finish fifth in the eight-team conference with 30 points.

Defending champion Catholic was chosen to once again defend its title.

The 2013 season was a turnaround year for the Juniata field hockey team. After not making the Landmark Conference postseason for the first time the previous season, the Eagles rebounded by going 4-2 in league play and falling in the tournament semifinals.
