Altoona Babe Ruth team falls to Jersey squad
WILLIAMSPORT – Nate Everhart collected two hits and Alec Bernard registered the lone RBI for Altoona Maroon in an 8-2 loss to Nottingham, N.J. in Pool B action of the Middle Atlantic Regional Junior Babe Ruth 14-year old Tournament Thursday.
Altoona Maroon will play its third game in pool play today at 4 p.m. against Rotterdam, N.Y.

Murin, Gabriel shine
FARGO, N.D. – Central Cambria’s Max Murin and Bedford’s Jonathan Gabriel both had strong scholastic seasons, and both continue to shine during the summer months as well.
Gabriel finished made it to the PIAA Class AA state championship bout at 113 pounds as a sophomore, and wound up second. Murin placed fifth in Class AA states at 106 pounds as a freshman.
Both wrestlers also distinguished themselves by earning All-American status for finishing among the top eight in their weight classes in national freestyle competition held July 23-26 in Fargo, N.D.
Murin finished second in the nation in the National Cadet Freestyle competition, dropping a 9-0 major decision to Roman Bravo Young of Arizona in the title match.
Gabriel placed sixth at 126 in the Junior Freestyle Division at 126 pounds in North Dakota.
Murin loved the atmosphere in the North Dakota event.
“It’s an unbelievable experience,” he said. “Losing in the finals there is hopefully going to push me to go harder and do better as [next] season goes forward.”
