P-O graduate Curtis promoted to Class A
Philipsburg-Osceola graduate Luke Curtis, who was drafted out of Pitt in the 18th round of the Major League Baseball draft by the Milwaukee Brewers on June 7, was promoted to low Class A Wisconsin on Tuesday.
The 6-foot-1, 215-pound Curtis, a right-handed relief pitcher who was 0-2 with a 4.15 earned run average with two saves for the Helena Brewers, the organization’s rookie league team, has been moved to the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers of the Midwest League.
Curtis had five strikeouts and one walk in 4 innings for Helena.
Brannan finishes eighth
INDIANA – Hollidaysburg’s Sean Brannan carded a three-round total of 212 to finish in eighth place and eight strokes behind Indiana’s Jon Mills (204) on Tuesday at the 110th PNC West Penn Open Championship at Indiana Country Club.
In addition to Brannan, who had a 68 in the final round to earn $1,400, Hollidaysburg’s Anthony DeGol tied with five others for 11th place at 215. DeGol, who won $1,050, carded a 70 on the final day of competition.
Tyrone graduate Jimmy Gillam carded a 219 and won $325.
Trenton Creppage had two hits and three RBIs for Martin Oil as it defeated Dick’s Pharmacy, 6-4, in a George B. Kelley Federation semifinal game Monday night.
The score was mistakenly reversed in Tuesday’s Mirror.
Devyn Carper had three hits and drove in a run to lead Dick’s Pharmacy.
Martin Oil can win the series with a win tonight when the two teams meet at 5:30 p.m. at Vets. In the other semifinal, Spring Cove can close out Dick’s Pharmacy at 8 p.m. Both of Tuesday’s Federation playoff games were wiped out by rain.
