Locker Room closes gap by going unbeaten

Two weeks ago, Altoona Greater City Baseball League president Brian Farabaugh said that things were getting pretty interesting at the top of the standings.

Now things are getting really interesting.

After a huge win against Conrad Chiropractic/Lilly American Legion on July 1, and a double-header sweep against Mountain View Archery on Wednesday, Locker Room has closed the gap between itself and Conrad Chiropractic/Lilly American Legion and ProActive Sports. Through Friday’s games, Locker Room sits at 15-4 and trails ProActive Sports, which has an 18-1 record, and Conrad Chiropractic/Lilly American Legion sits at 17-2.

Hot hitters

n Troy Pincherri, Andy Bagley, and Mark Saxman of ProActive Sports all had wonderful weeks. Pincherri went 4for-12, scored three runs and knocked in three runs. Bagley went 5-for-6 and scored four runs in just two games. Saxman went 5-for-13, scored two runs, hit a homer and had four RBIs.

n Conrad Chiropractic/Lilly American Legion had several players that have been scorching hot. Brent Matish went 4-for-11, scored three runs and drove in a pair. Cody Gallaher went 5-for-12, scored five times, hit a triple and drove in three.

Landon Sinclair went 6-for-10, scored six runs, hit a triple and drove in three. Brandon Ickes went 4-for-9, scored three times and had four RBIs. Brock Porter went 5-for-11, scored five runs, hit two doubles and had five RBIs.

n Locker Room’s Brett Weibley went 9-for-15, scored six runs, hit three doubles and had 10 RBIs.

Pitchers that exceled

n ProActive Sports’ Nate Plummer struck out seven, allowed just three hits and did not allow a run in six innings against Matty Trucking on June 29.

n Todd Johnson of Sheetz tossed a shutout, scattered four hits, struck out two and did not walk a batter against Mountain View on June 29.

n Ryan Murphy of Grandview Meats threw a three-hitter, struck out seven and walked just two in a 6-1 win over Mainline Men on June 29.

n Landon Sinclair, Mike Wigfield and Gregg Bandzuh of Lilly combined on a two-hit shutout against Matty Trucking on July 3.

n Andy Lytle led Locker Room to a 2-0 upset over Conrad Chiropractic. He shut them out, scattered four hits and fanned 10 on July 1.

n Cody Heane and Pete Shaffer of Wise Trailer Sales combined on a three-hitter, allowed just one run and combined on three strikeouts and just one walk against Mountain View Archery on June 30. It was a five-inning game.

n Locker Room’s Trey Claar and Jerrell Jackson combined on a three-hit shutout, walked just one and struck out four in five innings against Mainline Men on Monday.

n Tyler Neff and Andy Smithmyer of ProActive Sports combined on a five-hit shutout against Grandview Meats on Monday. The pair combined on seven strikeouts and four walks.

n Shaffer of Wise Trailer Sales scattered 10 hits, but gave up only one run against Ketrow Insurance on Wednesday. He struck out four.

n Claar and Alex Marchi, of Mountain View Archery, had a pitchers’ duel on Wednesday. Claar pitched a complete-game shutout while fanning 13 and did not walk a batter. Marchi allowed just two runs and three hits.

Hot teams

n Through Friday, ProActive Sports is 4-0.

n Wise Trailer Sales is 4-1 through Friday.

n Locker Room went 6-0.

Cold teams

n Matty Trucking went 0-3.

n Mainline Men went 0-4.
