Gingrich wins Teener title

Gingrich Insurance captured the Altoona Teener Minor League championship late Wednesday night at Seitz Field with a 9-3 victory over Eldorado Kiwanis at Seitz Field.

Gingrich won the double-elimination playoffs with a 4-1 record. Eldorado Kiwanis was 4-2.

Kiwanis entered Wednesday needing two wins for the championship and started off with a convincing 18-1 victory over Gingrich. Dalton Keller was the winning pitcher and also delivered three hits.

Caleb Tilson had three hits, and Blake Shaw added two for Kiwanis, which forced a second game.

Gingrich dominated in the second game behind Cody Becker’s four-hitter. Conner McCarthy and Casey Walters each delivered three hits, and Becker, Carson Weyandt and Logan Marko each had two. Tyler Boyer had two hits for Kiwanis in the nightcap.

Maroon triumphs

WILLIAMSPORT – Altoona Maroon opened up play at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Junior Babe Ruth 14-year-old Tournament Wednesday with a 5-2 win over North Syracuse at Logue Field.

Altoona plays again tonight at 7 against Nottingham, N.J. in the double-elimination event. Teams from New York, Delaware, New Jersey and Pennsylvania are competing. The winner of the tournament will advance to the national finals in Florida.

Ryan Shope led Altoona with two hits and three RBIs, while T.J. Becker also added a solo RBI effort.

Winning pitcher Nate Everhart went the distance, giving up just four hits with four strikeouts and four walks.
