Biddle, Tiracave earn high medals
HUMBLE, Texas – Two members of the Mountain Top Track and Field Club brought home top-five medals from the USATF National Junior Olympics championships last week at Turner Field near Houston.
Williamsburg’s Mike Biddle, a defending champion in the javelin in the 15-16 male division, placed third in the 17-18 division this past Saturday with a throw of 196 feet, 4 inches. Biddle is a senior at Williamsburg High School.
Jadyn Tiracave of Cresson, a sophomore at Penn Cambria High School, placed fourth in the 15-16 female division in the javelin with a personal-best throw of 134-4 on Saturday.
Also, Coupon’s Connor Karabinos finished 19th in the 11-12 male division with a throw of 110 feet last Thursday.
A.C. Milan at Heinz
PITTSBURGH – Fresh off of its 2014 Guinness International Champions Cup Match, Italian Futbol club A.C. Milan will hold an open practice session at Heinz Field at 5:30 p.m. today. The practice is free and open to the public.
All fans should enter Heinz Field through Gate A, starting at 4:30 p.m. A.C. Milan’s scheduled practice will run from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
PSU swimmer shines
UNIVERSITY PARK – Penn State rising junior Alyson Ackman represented Canada in the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, from July 24-28, helping the team to a silver and a bronze medal.
Ackman participated in the 100-meter freestyle, the 200-meter freestyle, the 4×100-meter freestyle relay and the 4×200-meter freestyle relay.
Ackman helped her 4×200-meter free relay squad to a silver medal performance, clocking in at 7:51.67 in the finals. The junior was also a member of the Canadian bronze medal 4×100-meter free relay group, which recorded a time of 3:40.00.
Individually, Ackman placed eighth in the 100-meter freestyle finals, touching the wall in 55.47. She also competed in the 200-meter freestyle event, posting a time of 1:59.86 in the preliminary heat.
The Commonwealth Games, first held in 1930, is an international, multi-sport event that takes place every four years.
