P-O’s Curtis signs deal with Brewers
Philipsburg’s Luke Curtis has gone west.
Curtis, the Philipsburg-Osceola right-handed pitcher who was drafted out of Pitt by Milwaukee on Saturday, has signed with the Brewers and currently is in Helena, Mont.
Curtis had another year of college eligibility, but he redshirted his freshman year because of Tommy John surgery and thought this was a good time to get started on living his dream of being a professional baseball player.
“It was tough to leave Pitt after four great years, and I am very thankful for everything that everyone there did for me,” Curtis said, “but I am now part of the Milwaukee Brewer organization and am very excited and proud of that.
“This is only the beginning though, there is much more I want to accomplish.”
Curtis will be assigned to the Brewers advanced rookie league team in Helena. The Helena Brewers are a member of the Frontier League.
Curtis is a 6-foot-1, 215-pound relief pitcher. He led Pitt in ERA this season.
