Central, C-K traveling to Pittsburgh-area sites
The Central baseball and Claysburg-Kimmel softball teams will be heading to the Pittsburgh area, while the Philipsburg-Osceola softball team is hoping it hasn’t seen the last of its venue when the PIAA spring sports playoffs reach the semifinals on Monday.
The PIAA released the sites and times on Friday.
Central, which still has a perfect record, is on its way to North Allegheny High School in Wexford. The Scarlet Dragons will be taking on Northwestern from Erie County at 4 p.m. in the Class AA semis.
Northwestern is the District 10 runner-up. Central is coming off a 10-run victory against Franklin, the team that beat Northwestern in the District 10 championship game.
Claysburg, meanwhile, also will be in action at 4 p.m. The Lady Bulldogs will be taking on WPIAL Class A champion Neshannock at Hempfield High School in Greensburg.
The Lady Bulldogs are no strangers to Neshannock; this is a rematch of a PIAA quarterfinal meeting from 2013 in which the Lady Lancers sidelined C-K, 6-1.
P-O is very familiar with its opponent, as well. The Lady Mounties are matched up with Mountain League rival Bald Eagle Area, which came back to defeat Philipsburg-Osceola in the District 6 championship last week.
Philipsburg-Osceola is going to play its Class AA semifinal at 5:30 p.m. the Penn State Softball Complex – if the Lady Mounties win, they’ll return to Penn State for the state finals on June 13. The baseball finals will be played on the other side of Beaver Stadium at Medlar Park at Lubrano Field the same day.
