Area players ready for all-star game

A trio of players from PIAA Class A runner-up Claysburg-Kimmel dot the District 6 roster for the Pennsylvania Softball Coaches Association all-star game, which will be played tonight at Beard Field at Penn State Softball Park.

The game pits senior all-stars from District 6 against those of District 4. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Pitcher Kiersten Coho, second baseman Madison Ickes and outfielder Abby Kulick will represent Claysburg when they suit up for the District 6 team. Three other players from the Mirror coverage area will play for District 6: Philipsburg-Osceola catcher Haley Frank, Central Cambria catcher Chelsey Long and Bellwood-Antis outfielder Emily Nagle.

A total of 25 players were picked for the District 6 game. The game will be 10 innings long.

Before the game, Central Cambria product Samantha Kemock will be one of five new members added to the District 6 PSCA Hall of Fame along with Mifflin County’s Kimbra Eckley, Central Mountain’s Taylor Lesser, Southern Huntingdon’s Renee Schmidt and former Centre Daily Times sports editor Ron Bracken. The hall of fame ceremony is slated for 6 p.m.
