Ricci, Clark claim D5 title
BEDFORD – Iacapo Ricci and John Clark of Tussey Mountain won the District 5 doubles high school tennis championship at Bedford Monday.
Logan Myslinski and Ben Windows of Bedford won their quarterfinal match before falling in the semifinals to the Somerset team of Tommaso Demozzi and Karam Salameh.
Ricci and Clark topped Demozzi and Salameh, 6-3, 3-6, 6-1.
“Iacapo and John persevered throughout their matches today and were able to make the winning shots when they needed them,” Tussey Mountain coach Paul Brumbaugh said. “Their playing time together this year has been limited, but after a slow start they were able to start clicking and picked up convincing wins in their first two matches. The finals were very tight throughout the first two sets, but Iacapo and John were able to jump out to a 3-0 lead in the third set and finished it out strong with a good service game and strong net play.
“They deserve credit for digging in and playing their best tennis when they needed to during the that third set. They represented the school well today and the team is proud of their accomplishment.”
Tyler Sprigg and David Cain won a first-round match for the Bisons.
