Locals have their assignments

From Mirror reports

The Central High School baseball team won’t be too far out of its own backyard when it opens PIAA Class AA tournament on action on Monday.

The PIAA announced on Friday afternoon that the Scarlet Dragons’ interdistrict first round game will be played at Peoples Natural Gas Field. The undefeated Dragons just played there, winning the District 6 championship over Bald Eagle Area on Tuesday.

Game time is 6 p.m.

Central’s first round opponent is Quaker Valley, the consolation game winner from the WPIAL. Should the Dragons win and advance, their next game is scheduled for Thursday against either Franklin or Seton-LaSalle.

All the other teams from the Mirror coverage area that have made it to the state baseball and softball tourney will be on the road on Monday. District 5 champion Bedford, which could meet Central in the PIAA semifinals, first needs to ride to Fox Chapel High School on the north side of Pittsburgh to play District 7 champion Steel Valley. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.

The Mirror area’s other surviving baseball team, Juniata Valley, will trek to Ephrata’s War Memorial Stadium in a Class A game at 4 p.m. The Green Hornets are playing District 3’s Lancaster County Christian.

A pair of interdistrict softball regulars will be in action in a doubleheader at Clarion-Limestone High School in Strattanville. In Class A action, District 6 runner-up Claysburg-Kimmel meets up with District 9 champ DuBois Central Christian at 3:30 p.m. That will be followed by a Class AA tilt pitting District 6 second-place team Philipsburg-Osceola against District 9 winner Moniteau at 5:30.

Everett, which won District 5 Class AA for the first time in six years on Wednesday, will be heading to Wexford and North Allegheny High School. The Lady Warriors are matched up with Beaver, the WPIAL champion, at 5 p.m.
