Lady Panthers take LHAC again

EBENSBURG – Penn Cambria’s Ashton Hite led off the top of the seventh in a scoreless game with a triple, and she later scored on Taylor Doughty’s one-out fielder’s choice, giving the Lady Panthers a 1-0 win over Bishop Carroll in high school softball Friday.

The win not only hiked Penn Cambria’s record to 18-0, but the Lady Panthers also clinched the Laurel Highlands Athletic Conference title for the second year in a row.

“It’s a team accomplishment,” PC coach John Casale said. “We have a good group of senior leaders, and it’s a good feeling to win again. It was a goal that we set in place.

“Carroll had a good year also, and it was probably a heartbreaker to lose. The girls know each other and there’s a lot of pride going into winning. Our girls were excited about beating them twice.”

BC’s Courtney Link, Sarah Gomish and Taylor Rake had two hits each off of PC’s Kelly Yusko. BC’s Abby Simmons gave up only three hits

Gina Spinner tripled for Bishop Carroll.
