Bisons erupt to pound Ramblers
BEDFORD – Bedford scored 11 runs in the first inning en route to an 18-2 win over Windber Tuesday in a District 5 Class AA baseball playoff game.
The game was called after four innings because of the mercy rule. The Bisons will play Chestnut Ridge on Wednesday, May 28, at Everett in the second round.
Austin Montgomery hit two home runs for Bedford and finished with five RBIs. Teammate Zach Shaffer also finished with five RBIs, thanks to a grand slam.
Shaffer, Kody Blevins and Montgomery all had two hits while winning pitcher Andrew Smith added three RBIs.

11 area players honored
The Mid-State Boys Volleyball League recently released its all-star squad for the 2014 spring season and it features 11 players out of a possible 15 from the Mirror coverage area.
Making the team for Altoona were seinors Josh Huber and Kody Clawson, along with juniors Brett Koelle, Eric Wineland and Adam Borst. Representing District 6 Class AA champion Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic were seniors Jamey Brumbaugh, Ben Kasun, Nick Little and Damon Rickens.
Making the team for Central was seinor Matt Price, while Northern Cambria’s Zach Lee, a senior, also made the squad.
Rounding out the group were DuBois’ Jake Kriner, Hunter Lydick and Josh Sanko, along with Forest Hills’ Kevin Ickes.

Brandon Shunk had four hits to go with three hits from Caleb Tilson as Kiwanis beat Gingrich Insurance, 15-10, in Altoona Teener Minor League action at Seitz Field.
Gingrich got two hits each from Logan Marko and Cody Becker.
n Sam Servello had two hits and drove in four runs as Altoona Arthritis & Osteoporosis Center defeated III-D Plumbing, 16-4, in Altoona Teener Minor League action at Seitz Field.
Luke Keenan and Matt Walters each had two hits and two RBIs for AAOC, and Mark Conrad had two hits and two RBIs for III-D Plumbing.

The name of Bellwood-Antis’ Bailey Swogger was omitted from the list of area girls PIAA qualifiers from Tuesday’s District 6 Class AA Track and Field Championships. Swogger finished third in the 100-meter dash, posting a time of 13.11 seconds.
