Lady Blue Devils pick up win No. 10

LOYSBURG – Bellwood-Antis edged Northern Bedford, 4-1, in eight innings in high school softball on Monday.

With the game knotted at 1-1 in the top of the eighth, Bellwood-Antis had a runner on first when a fielder’s choice throw from third base to second sailed into the outfield and rolled to the fence as both the runner and the batter came around to score on the throwing error to help give the Lady Blue Devils the victory, their 10th of the season. Northern fell to 3-4.

Tayler Shildt singled in the final run.

Shildt and NBC’s Makenzie Eshelman put on a pitchers’ duel, as Eshelman struck out 11 and walked just three, while Shildt added eight strikeouts and one free pass.

Maddie Miller pounded out three hits for Bellwood. Lindsay Over and Meghan Russell tallied two hits apiece for the Lady Panthers.

Northern stranded eight on base, while B-A left six.

FLINTON – Haley Rhule had three hits and drove in a run to lead Williamsburg past Glendale.

The Lady Pirates, who turned two double plays in the game, also got three hits from Carly England to go with two RBIs each from Camryn Bookhammer, Amy Walker and Katie Kennedy.

Glendale received two hits and two RBIs from Cortney Blake.

PHILIPSBURG – Morgan Williamson pitched a three-hit shutout to lead Philipsburg-Osceola past Penns Valley.

MARTINSBURG – Ashley Smith hit a grand slam and wound up with six RBIs in two innings as Central routed Tyrone in a Mountain League game that was stopped after 2 innings because of the mercy rule.

Gabby Eberlin hit a two-run homer and drove in three runs, while Taylor Garman hit a solo homer and drove in two runs, for Central, which improved to 8-3 overall.

Alyssa Pheasant had four hits, and Kaylee Beaudoin drove in five runs as Hollidaysburg evened its record by rolling over Bishop Guilfoyle at Dick Bickel Field.

Colleen Murphy had two hits and two RBIs for the Lady Tigers, who also got three hits and three RBIs from Sammy Parnell. Pheasant and Mikayla Focht combined on a four-hitter.

The Lady Tigers are now 3-3.

CRESSON – Kate Little doubled, tripled, singled and Kelly Yusko was the winning pitcher as Penn Cambria beat Central Cambria.

MacKenzie McIntosh drove in four runs for the Lady Panthers, who will host a four-team tournament at Mount Aloysius this Saturday at 9 a.m.

Krista Berzonsky tripled, singled and scored the lone run for the Lady Devils.

EBENSBURG – Sarah Gomish homered, finished with three hits and drove in three runs to help Bishop Carroll beat Bedford and improve to 4-1.

The Lady Huskies also got three hits and an RBI from Brooke Mento to go with two RBIs from winning pitcher Abby Simmons.

Bedford got two hits and an RBI from Alyssa Turkovich.

The Lady Bisons fell to 1-7.

Junior high games

n Hollidaysburg had no problems beating Tyrone in a doubleheader, 23-2 and 33-1, at home. In the first game, Jordynn Robertson smacked two hits, including a triple. In the second game, Abby Albright pounded out three hits, incluing a double, while Robertson and Alexis Petre tallied two hits each.

n Northern Bedford defeated Bellwood-Antis, 16-1, at Loysburg. Bip Lingenfelter had three hits for the winners, while winning pitcher Morgan Kirchman struck out five.

n Olivia England scored the go-ahead run on a error with two outs in the top of the seventh, and Williamsburg held Glendale scoreless in bottom of inning to emerge with an 11-10 win in Flinton. England was 3-for-3 with a homer and scored four runs. Williamsburg is 2-5.
