Huntingdon volleyball team knocks off Central in four

MARTINSBURG – Huntingdon defeated Central, 25-20, 25-14, 17-25, 25-15, in high school boys volleyball Monday behind 25 assists and 15 service points from Matt Sellers.

The Bearcats’ Ian Kidd chipped in with nine kills and seven service points.

Matt Price led Central with 14 service points and 12 kills.

Furrer Beverage nips AFC

Josh Russo had two RBIs, and winning pitcher Josh Trybus pitched seven innings to lead Furrer Beverage to a 4-3 win over Altoona Family Chiropractic at Seitz Field in Altoona Teener Major League action.

Cory Snyder drove in two runs for AFC.

PSU wrestlers place high

UNIVERSITY PARK – Penn State wrestlers David Taylor, Zain Retherford and Ed Ruth topped the list of strong performances as 15 Lions or NLWC club members competed in the 2014 Vegas ASICS/U.S. Open and FILA Junior Nationals on Friday and Saturday.

Taylor and Retherford claimed runner-up laurels, while Ruth took third.

Five other Nittany Lions also competed at the event, with all grabbing at least one win. Matt Brown went 3-2 at 86 kg; James Vollrath went 2-2 at 70 kg; Zack Beitz went 1-2 at 65 kg; Kade Moss went 1-2 at 65 kg; and Jordan Conaway went 1-2 at 57 kg.


Carl Barner is the superintendent at the Huntingdon Country Club. He is in his ninth year as superintendent. Information was incorrect in Saturday’s Tee it Up tabloid.
