Carper gets NEC top honor

Chris Carper, an Altoona graduate, was named the Northeast Conference Field Athlete of the Week for the second time this season for his efforts on the Robert Morris track and field team.

Carper was also named the school’s male athlete of the week for the 10th time, the most any athlete has won the award at the school since the award began in 2007.

Carper won the javelin at the Bennie Benson Memorial Invitational on April 12 with a toss of 71.09 meters (233 feet, 3 inches). The throw set a new meet record and broke the facility mark at the RMU Island Sports Center.

Carper now holds nine of the top 10, including the top seven, javelin throws in Robert Morris history.

Carper is ranked eighth in Division I and sixth in the East Region.

Last Sunday, Carper was named the 2013 Most Outstanding Senior Male Athlete and 2013 Men’s Outdoor Track and Field MVP for the second consecutive year.
