Swim season over for AAA

LEWISBURG – The high school swimming season came to a close on Thursday for three Class AAA swimmers from Blair County at the PIAA State Diving and Swimming Championships at Bucknell University.

Hollidaysburg’s Mace Long competed in the 100 backstroke, where he finished 24th in 53.14. The top 16 advance to the medal round. The cutoff was Greg Arnold from North Allegheny, who finished in 51.98. The top time turned in was from Mike Thomas of Hatboro-Horsham in 48.47.

Teammate Colter Long competed in the 100 breaststroke where he took 24th in 59.58. The cutoff at No. 16 was Alex Carara of Gateway, who finished in 58.68. The top time turned in was from Rex Riley from Erie Cathedral Prep in 55.73.

In girls competition, Altoona’s Katerina Parowski competed in the 100 freestyle where she finished 30th in 54.22.

“She placed basically where she was seeded from districts,” Altoona coach Andy Smearman said. “She was a little bit off, but her time was still comparable to how she swam at districts. We were hoping to go faster, but overall, we were happy that she got down there and got some experience.”

The cutoff at No. 16 was Ali Kozlina from Seneca Valley in 52.74. The top time turned in was from Parkland’s Siena Salvaggio in 50.79.
