Williams shines for Flash women

HACKENSACK, N.J. – The St. Francis women’s basketball team used a 26-point, 17-rebound effort from senior Alli Williams en route to a convincing 110-69 win over Fairleigh Dickinson Saturday afternoon.

All 12 players that entered the game for the Red Flash (6-12, Northeast Conference 4-3) registered points as SFU won the second meeting this season against the Knights (1-17, 0-7). Alexa Hayward finished with 21 points, five rebounds, and six assists, while Erin Blaine also posted a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

St. Francis started out the contest on a 13-0 run where Aisha Brock and Alexa Hayward each chipped in five points. SFU extended its lead to 20 at the 4:03 mark after a lay-up from Samiah Bethel.

Fairleigh Dickinson went on a late 8-2 run to end the half as SFU led 44-30 at the break.

SFU used a quick 5-0 run to open the second period highlighted by an Alexa Hayward three that started her hot streak. Hayward would go on to knock down three more shots from beyond the arc as the Flash extended the lead to 30 at the 10:03 mark.

SFU continued to control the tempo and nearly matched its Northeast Conference scoring record that they set against FDU on Jan. 11.

Fairleigh Dickinson did not lead at any point during the contest. St. Francis finished shooting 43.5 percent (40-92), including a 40 percent (14-35) mark from beyond the arc.

The Red Flash also posted 25 assists and put up a season-high 66 second half points.

Aisha Brock added 13 points and a game-high seven assists, and Taylor Allison knocked down three triples to set a new career-high with nine points.

St. Francis continues its four-game road trip with its second stop coming at LIU Brooklyn for a 7 p.m. matchup on Monday. SFU fell to the Blackbirds, 61-43, on the road in 2012-13 in the lone meeting between the two schools.
