Boiling Springs wins Tool City Tournament
Boiling Springs captured the team title of Tool City Tournament by 36.5 points, 221.5-185, over Fort LeBoeuf, and General McLane finished third with 181.5 points over the weekend at Meadville High School.
Cathedral Prep’s Jake Gromacki was voted the Class AAA Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament with a 4-2 win over Boiling Springs’ two-time Tool City champion Korbin Myers in the finals, avenging a loss to Myers in last year’s championship bout.
Myers finished third in the PIAA Class AA Championships at 113 last season, while Gromacki took fourth in the Class AAA state tournament at the same weight. Boiling Springs had two champions in Kyle Shoop (132) and Kyle Taylor (220) and two runners-up.
General McLane’s Joe Wheeler beat McDowell’s Charlie Lenox, 2-1 in the 113-pound title bout. Interestingly enough, the two also met in the finals of the King of the Mountain.
Piling up points
Huntingdon scored at least 48 points in all five of its wins at the Juniata Duals, but Reynolds really piled up the points at the Mega Duals in Sharpsville, scoring at least 67 points in all five of wins.
