Three Bisons earn titles at Boiling Springs
BOILING SPRINGS – Three Bedford wrestlers captured titles at the Boiling Springs Tournament, and five other Bisons finished second on Friday.
Jonathan Gabriel (113), Ryan Easter (132) and Chance Williams (182) won their weight classes. Noah Baughman (106), Jake Warren (126), Garrett Thomas (138), Brayden Crawley (195) and Nate Shoemaker (285) finished second.
Bedford finished in second place to Boiling Springs in the seven-team tournament by 22 points, 232-210.

Two make Powerade semis
CANONSBURG – Two area wrestlers have reached the semifinals of the prestigious Powerade Tournament at Canon McMillan High School.
Altoona’s D.J. Hollingshead (152) and Chestnut Ridge’s Austin Buttry (285) have advanced to the semis, which begin at 11:30 this morning.
The fifth-seeded Hollingshead breezed to the semifinals with a major decision, an 8-2 decision and then a pin of Burrell’s fourth-seeded Steve Edwards in 2:46 in the semis.
The Mountain Lion junior will face Franklin Regional’s top-seeded Josh Shields in the finals. Shields had a major decision, a technical fall and a 7-4 decision over Mifflin County’s Noah Stewart in the semis.
Buttry, who had a bye and a pin to make the quarters, knocked off Huntingdon, W.Va.’s fourth-seeded Nigale Cabell, 3-1, in the semis. Buttry has a huge challenge in the semis, facing Solanco’s three-time state champion Thomas Haines.
Altoona’s Cole Manley (106) rolled to the quarters with a pin and a major decision, but he was pinned by Solanco’s second-seeded Connor Sheehan in 2:43 in the semis.
Tigers’ Huff advances
HARMONY – Hollidaysburg’s Damian Huff (113) was the only area wrestler to reach the semifinals of the Southmoreland Holiday Tournament.
Huff rolled to the semis with two major decisions, including an 11-2 win over Trinity’s Tristan Buxton. Huff will face Jefferson-Morgan’s second-seeded Brendan Howard in the semis. Howard reached the semis with an 8-second pin of Forest Hills’ Tanner McCall.
Hollidaysburg is in sixth place in the team standings by three points over Northern Bedford, 76-73.
P-O’s Gray in semifinals
LANCASTER – Philipsburg-Osceola 220-pounder Nick Gray is the Mounties’ lone semifinalist in the two-day Conestoga Valley Tournament.
Four other Mounties – Bryce Bennett (106), Chris Thompson (120), Dakota Weitoish (132) and Bub Lumadue (182) – remain alive in the consolations.
Gray will wrestle Pittston’s Jake Vaxmonsky in the semifinals.
No other details were available.
Knights’ Bunnell shines
SHILLINGTON – Moshannon Valley’s Jack Bunnell (285) breezed to the semifinals of the Governor Mifflin Tournament.
The top-seeded Bunnell won by decision in his first bout and then recorded a 19-second pin in the quarterfinals. Bunnell will face Dover’s Cameron Beckman in the semis.
The Black Knights are tied for 20th in the team standings of the 24-team tournament.
MOUNT UNION – Claysburg-Kimmel managed only three bout wins in a loss to District 6 power Mount Union.
Dakota Walter (113) had the Bulldogs’ lone pin.

Tiger juniors win tourney
The Hollidaysburg Junior High wrestling team crowned three champions on the way to winning the United Junior High Invitational on Dec. 21.
Bailey Smith, Nathan Swartz, and Cody Dively took first place in their respective weight classes. Jarrett Cavalet and Jacob Sensening took second place. Lane Wertz, Matthew Hines, Vlad Hilling and Gus Dellinger took thirdplace. Dan Reeve, Andrew Simpson, Zach DiAndreth, Justin Detwiler, and Jacob Schultz took fourth place.
