Four Ridge players make Sideling list

he Sideling Hill League released its 2013 all-star squads for soccer earlier this week and it is headlines by four Chestnut Ridge players.

Making first-team for the Lions were Sean Van Meter, Jordan Crist, Cole Fungaroli and Kyler Lesh. Ridge won the SHL with a 16-1 record.

Northern Bedford was represented by Coltin Ebersole and Jonas Bequeath while Everett’s Kevin Knox also made first team.

Nine girls honored

The Sideling Hill League 2013 girls soccer all-star squad has nine players on it from the Mirror coverage area.

Leading the way are Tussey Mountain’s Samantha Coffman, Kylie Bussard and Alex Watkins. Northern Bedford’s Lindsay Over and Lauren Morris were on the team, as were Chestnut Ridge’s Molly and Mylee Dull. Everett was represented by Annie Pittman and Jessica Appel.

Laret gets hole-in-one

Jack Laret carded a hole-in-one on the Park Hills Country Club’s 158-yard third hole from the blue tees with a 7 iron on Oct. 31.

The feat was witnessed by John Brown, Greg Gildea and Dane Sager.

Spikes set schedule

UNIVERSITY PARK – The State College Spikes, Class-A Short-Season affiliate of the National League champion St. Louis Cardinals, announced the club’s 2014 New York-Penn League schedule and home game times.

The Spikes’ 38-game home slate at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park will open on Saturday, June 14 against the Williamsport Crosscutters and continue through Saturday, Aug. 30.

Standard home game times will remain 7:05 p.m. for all weekday and Saturday contests and 6:05 p.m. on Sundays. Two exceptions will occur during the 2014 home schedule – Friday, July 4 (game time TBA) and Monday, July 14 (noon).

Twenty-six of the Spikes’ 38 home games will feature opponents from the NYPL’s Pinckney Division, including six against Williamsport and five each against division rivals Auburn, Batavia, Jamestown and Mahoning Valley. Non-divisional opponents Aberdeen, Brooklyn, Hudson Valley and Staten Island will also make three-game visits to Medlar Field at Lubrano Park in 2014.
