Stevens places eighth to capture state medal

YORK – Central Cambria’s Dom Stevens shot a final round 78 to match his first round score and finished with a total of 156 – good enough for a tie for eighth place and a medal at the Class AA PIAA boys golf championships.

Stevens, the runner-up to teammate Jeremy Eckenrode in the District 6 tournament, made four birdies during his round Tuesday.

Eckenrode, who shot an 80 on the first day, shot a 83 and finished tied for 22nd.

Claysburg-Kimmel’s Tyler Brown rebounded from his first day 92 to shoot 79 and finished 32nd.

Isaiah Logue of Fairfield won the Class AA title with a score of 3-under par for the tournament.

Hollidaysburg’s Hunter Stevens, who finished as the runner-up in both the District 6 Class AAA championship and the PIAA Western Regional, struggled again Tuesday, shooting a 92 to follow up his first-day 91. He finished 36th in the class won by Upper St. Clair’s Grant Engel with a 5-over par showing.

Isabella Dilisio of Mount St. Joseph won the Class AAA girls title, and Macky Fouse of Central Valley captured the Class AA girls championship.
