Red Flash field hockey adds two goalkeepers

LORETTO – Coach Stacey Bean announced the addition of two goalkeepers – Samantha Zeiders of Lower Dauphin High School and Lexy Dize of Pocomoke, Md., to the St. Francis University field hockey team for 2013-14.

“I’m excited to have such a strong core of goalkeepers coming into our program,” Bean said. “Both Sammy and Lexy bring a tremendous skill set to the team. They have very different styles and strengths, which will challenge our team to get better every day. Jill [DiCola], Sammy and Lexy give us the strongest goalkeeping unit that we’ve had in our program’s history.”

In high school, Dize was part of a state championship team in 2009. In 2011, her field hockey squad made it to the state semifinals. Dize also was an accomplished club player. Her U16 team finished in first place in 2010 at the ESPN Rise Games. In 2011 and 2012, Dize was part of first place U19 team’s at the Focus and Disney Field Hockey showcases, respectively.

Zeiders comes to SFU as a transfer from UMass, where her team earned an Atlantic 10 championship in 2012. At Lower Dauphin, Zeiders was a two-sport athlete in field hockey and track and field. Zeiders was also part of a 2009 PIAA state championship team. The 5-foot-8 keeper was named to the U17 National Team, PA Regional second team and first-team PA All-State in 2010 and 2011.

St. Francis will begin its first season in the Atlantic 10 Conference in 2013.
