College signing

Name: Alexa Weston

High school: Altoona

Hometown: Altoona

Sport: Track and field

Position: High jumper

College choice: Indiana University of Pennsylvania

Other colleges considered: Lock Haven University, Juniata College

Why I picked IUP: “It was close enough to home, and it has a good humanities and social sciences program.”

Greatest high school achievement: “I had a good overall high school athletic career.”

Coach Steve Rhodes’ quote: “She was on the team three years, she was a district runnerup this past year, she just missed going to the state meet by one missed jump. I think her PR was 5 feet. She was our top high jumper this year, going to IUP will be good for her both track wise and academically. She’ll be able to add depth to that team in their jumping events. She was fairly consistent and did some good things for us. She was our top high jumper.”

How I got my start in track and field: “I always wanted to try track and field, and when I was in seventh grade, all my friends were competing in track and field, so I joined the team.”

Favorite college growing up: Notre Dame

Other interests: Basketball, baby-sitting

What getting to participate in college means to me: “It means a lot to me, because track has been my whole life since seventh grade, so I get to further my career in it and better myself, which makes me happy.”

Probable college major: Humanities and social sciences

Parents: Michael and Heather Weston
