Altoona hosting state Babe Ruth tourney

The Altoona Teener Baseball League will host the Babe Ruth state tournament for 13-year-olds beginning Wednesday at Seitz Field.

Seven teams will compete in pool play competition from Wednesday through Sunday, and the top four teams will then play the semifinals on Monday with the championship slated for Tuesday, July 23.

Host Altoona, which won the District 7 tournament recently, will compete against Broomall/Newtown, Mifflin County, Blue Valley, Chesco Mustangs, Levittown and West End.

Altoona players include Jeremy Ehrhart, Austin DelBaggio, Nate Everhart, Casey Sheetz, Avery McGinnis, Cole Gibson, Jacob Hunter, Trevor Miller, Max Sankey, Ryan Shope, Keaton Nolan and T.J. Becker. Coaches are Ryan Everhart, Chuck Kivitz, John Huber and Brian Deremer.

Cambria Twp. Pony League

LILLY – Gavin Martynuska knocked in two runs to lead Lilly to a 7-6 win over Northern Cambria Resta in the Cambria Township Pony League round-robin tournament.

Lilly, which scored seven runs in the fourth inning to wipe out a 3-0 deficit, improved to 5-1 in the tournament and will face Northern Cambria Resta (3-1) in a winner-take-all game at 6 p.m. tonight to determine the tourney champion.

Altoona beaten in Ruth final

MILROY – The Altoona entry in the Babe Ruth District 7 Regional Tournament for 15-year-olds placed second.

Altoona was beaten by Mifflin County, 10-7, in the championship game at Armagh Field. No other details were reported to the Mirror.

Mifflin County advanced to the state tournament in Williamsport.
