Mounties eliminated in AMCC tournament

ERIE – The Mount Aloysius baseball team’s season came to an end with an 11-1 loss to La Roche College in the completion of a rain-suspended elimination game in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Tournament Saturday morning.

The Redhawks pounded 15 hits off of three Mount Aloysius pitchers. Kyle Cameron, who gave up eight hits and eight runs in three innings, took the loss.

James Connelly, who gave up two hits and one run in six innings, earned the win.

The Mounties finished their season with a 26-16 record.

Penn State Behrend won the champiosnhip with a 9-5 win over La Roche.

Lions fall to Yale

UNIVERSITY PARK – Colin Flaherty scored three goals during a big second-half run that helped Yale rally from a four-goal halftime deficit to beat Penn State 10-7 in the first round of the NCAA men’s lacrosse tournament.

Conrad Oberback added two goals, and Kirby Zdrill had the go-ahead score with 9:06 left for the Bulldogs (12-4), who won their first tournament game since 1992. Yale led in shots (23-15).

TJ Sanders scored twice for Penn State (12-5), which hosted its first NCAA tourney game.

The loss spoiled a breakthrough season for the program after the Nittany Lions set a season record for victories.
