Mountain Lions take Dallastown Silver Bracket

DALLASTOWN – Altoona was swept by Dallastown (30-24), Daniel Boone (30-21), Lower Dauphin (30-21), Central Dauphin East (33-31) and York Suburban (15-13, 15-4) in pool play and cross pool play but rebounded to win the Silver Bracket championship in high school boys volleyball Saturday.

Altoona topped Unionville (25-17), Spring Grove (25-22), Eastern York (25-23) and topped New Oxford, 25-16, in the final.

Altoona’s Tanner Baumgartner had 22 service points and 23 kills. Kody Clawson contibuted 40 digs and 13 service points, Josh Huber had 12 blocks and Eric Wineland had 32 assists.

Tiger juniors win tourney

MARTINSBURG – The Hollidaysburg junior high girls volleyball team won the League Tournament at Central High School, beating Park Forest, 18-25, 25-22, 15-12, in the finals.

Mount Nittany was third, while Bellwood-Antis was fourth, and Spring Cove was fifth.

Hollidaysburg was 6-2 in pool play, and the Lady Tigers reached the finals by beating Mount Nittany, 25-19, in the semfinals. Hollidaysburg was led by Mikayla Focht (24 service points), Delaney Hurd (30 digs), Emily Baranik (18 kills), Miranda Rhodes (37 assists) and Carly McGarvey (11 blocks).

PSU Altoona makes finals

No. 1 seed Penn State Altoona softball earned a slot in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championship with a 3-2 comeback win over No. 2 seed D’Youville College at Stewart Athletic Field.

The Lady Lions will face Pitt-Bradford for the conference title today at 10 a.m. A win wraps up the championship for PSU Altoona; a loss would force a rematch game to decide the title. because of the tournament’s double-elimination rules.
