Mort keys Lady ’Cats by Central

HUNTINGDON – Brionna Mort’s two-out, two-run double in the sixth inning scored Jenna Conner and Hannah Varner and lifted Huntingdon over Central, 6-5, in high school softball Wednesday.

Mort, Sam Mansberger and Varner had two hits each for the Lady Bearcats, who knocked off Bald Eagle Area on Tuesday.

Central’s Ashley Smith had three hits, including two doubles, while teammates Marissa Snyder, Lauren Aiello, Taylor McKnight and Kylie Gunnett had two hits each off of winning pitcher Morgan Glover.

PC?wins LHAC championship

Penn Cambria’s 4-3 win over Cambria Heights on Tuesday gave the Lady Panthers the championship of the Laurel Highlands Athletic Conference.

Penn Cambria is 13-1 in the LHAC and 15-2 overall, while Johnstown is second with a 10-3 record in the conference.

Altoona juniors defeat Tyrone

The Altoona Area junior high team entered the victory column for the first time this season, sweeping a 17-2, 12-2 doubleheader from visiting Tyrone.

Makena Daniels hit a double, single, and collected three RBIs for Altoona in the first game, which was stopped by the mercy rule after three innings. In the seccond game, stopped after five innings, Altoona got a single and two RBIs from Maddie Benton, and a complete-game, two-hit pitching performance from Jocelyn Lynch.
