Smith’s two homers key Central to victory

MARTINSBURG – Ashley Smith and Marissa Snyder spearheaded unbeaten Central’s 20-hit attack in a 17-7 mercy-rule victory over Mountain League rival Huntingdon in high school softball Monday.

Smith crushed two homers, a three-run shot and solo blast, and drove in four runs, while Snyder had four hits, including a three-run homer, and also drove in four runs.

Central improved to 8-0 overall and 6-0 in the Mountain League.

Tiger juniors sweep Tyrone

TYRONE – The Hollidaysburg junior high softball team won both games of a doubleheader over Tyrone, 27-0 and 17-2.

Mikayla Focht threw a no-hitter in the first game, while adding eight strikeouts. Emily Ingram was the winning pitcher in the second game, as Hollidaysburg improved to 4-4.

PHILIPSBURG – The Philipsburg-Osceola junior high softball team was held to just one hit in four innings in a 21-1 loss to Mount Union. P-O dropped to 1-2.
