Chad Allender, Ryan Good and Mustafa Ahmad all posted singles victories, while the teams of Chris Reighard and Jake Colledge, and Joey Settimio and Matt Eiman produced two doubles wins, as Altoona blanked Hollidaysburg, 5-0, in high school boys tennis Wednesday at the Leopold Rec Center.
Altoona improved to 2-0, while Hollidaysburg dropped its season opener.

Mustangs lose
HARTFORD, Ct. – The Mid-State Mustangs U18 ice hockey team lost to the Chicago Bruins, 4-1, at the USA National Championships.
The Mustangs, who out-shot the Bruins in the first period, 13-6, got their only goal from Sam Lafferty on a short-handed score in the third period. That cut the Bruins’ lead to 3-1 at the time.
Mid-State wound up out-shooting its opponent, 38-31. The team is back in action this morning at 8:30 against Port Huron, Mich. Mid-State beat Huron in last year’s tournament. The Mustangs get Weektochaga, N.Y. on Friday. Mid-State needs two wins in the tourney to get to the quarterfinals.

Spring Cove tops BC
ROARING SPRING – Michael Speck knocked in three runs to lead Spring Cove to a 16-1 junior high baseball win over Bishop Carroll in the season opener for both teams.
The game was stopped by the mercy rule after three innings. Josh McKnight and Will Helsel combined to pitch no-hit ball over the three innings for Spring Cove.

GALLITZIN – Behind Miche Burkett’s 10 service points, Penn Cambria beat Bellwood-Antis, 25-7, 25-14, in junior high girls volleyball. Penn Cambria is 2-1.
The Lady Blue Devils got 11 service points from Mikala Mason and nine more from Anna Shawley.
