Freeman, Yusko lead Lady Panthers by CC

EBENSBURG – Taylor Freeman had four hits, and Kelly Yusko homered and doubled to lead Penn Cambria to an 11-4 win over Central Cambria in high school softball Monday.

Central Cambria’s Kandace Long had three hits, and Chelsey Long had two hits off of Yusko, who struck out 11 and walked one.

CLAYSBURG – Winning pitcher Kiersten Coho tossed four scoreless and hitless innings, and also drove in two runs at the plate to spark Claysburg-Kimmel to an Inter-County Conference North Division win over Moshannon Valley.

The game was stopped because of the 10-run mercy rule after 4 innings. Kala Brumbaugh cracked two doubles and drove in a run for Claysburg, which improved to 4-2 overall and in the conference division.

Tiger juniors sweep Tyrone

HOLLIDAYSBURG – Hollidaysburg defeated Tyrone, 16-1 and 19-0 in junior high softball.

Hollidaysburg’s Mikayla Focht tossed a perfect game and struck out eight of the nine batters she faced and hit a home run in the second game.

Kaitlyn Cappella had three hits in the first game, and Emily Ingram was the winning pitcher. Hollidaysburg improved to 10-6.

P-O juniors win twice

PHILIPSBURG – The Philipsburg-Osceola junior high team improved to 5-2, thanks to a twinbill sweep of Clearfield, 15-0 and 19-0.

Maggie Peck got the win in the opener. Camryn Frank won the nightcap and finished with seven strikeouts. Julia Burns had two doubles and four RBIs in the opener for the winners. Teammate Jade Scalzo had two hits and scored three runs in the nightcap.

Altoona juniors lose pair

The Altoona junior high team dropped to 0-8 with 10-2 and 17-2 losses to Mifflin County on the Logan Elementary School field.

Madison James singled in the first game for Altoona. The second game was stopped after four innings because of the 10-run mercy rule.
