College choice: Indiana Wesleyan University

Why I picked Indiana Wesleyan University: “All aspects of the college were exactly what I was looking for. Everyone there was so nice, before I even met the volleyball crew I knew this was where I was going. When I met coach and the team, it just made it all the better; they made me feel like I had been on the team for ages.”

Greatest high school achievement: “My greatest high school achievement was getting my 1,000th assist. It was an awesome feeling to know I reached a goal I’ve had since middle school. I couldn’t have done it without my team, and especially hitters; so a great big thanks goes out to them.”

Coach Tracey Elkin’s quote: “It’s been an amazing journey that I have had the privilege of sharing with Sam, both as an athlete and daughter. Since she began playing Red Devil volleyball in seventh grade I have watched her grow both as an athlete and person, and I can’t think of a better way for her to begin the next chapter, than at Indiana Wesleyan University. Throughout her playing career at Central Cambria and with Revolution Volleyball Club in State College, she continually challenged herself to not only become physically stronger, but to acquire a higher level of understanding of the game.”

How I got my start playing volleyball: “Just like any other student in middle school, I had the option of running track, or playing volleyball; so I decided to sign up for the volleyball team and give it a try. My mom, being the coach, was completely supportive of whatever decision I made. After the first practice I couldn’t stop! All I wanted to do was play, and that’s all I’ve done ever since.”

Favorite college growing up: Penn State

Other interests: Drawing, track and field, watching movies

What getting to play in college means to me: “Being given the opportunity to play in college is honestly the greatest thing that’s ever happened to me. It’s been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember. It has already opened up so many doors, and given me many opportunities like going to New Zealand on a missions trip and playing their national team! I’m so excited, and so blessed to be able to play for IWU. I can’t wait to start.”
