Central blanks Portage

MARTINSBURG – Cassidi Barnes hit a grand slam and drove in five runs for Central, and Kylie Gunnett tossed a six-inning shutout as the Lady Dragons topped Portage, 10-0, in high school softball on Monday afternoon.

Marissa Snyder added four hits for Central.

Alli Kissell had two hits for Portage.

Winning pitcher Kate Matthews gave up one hit, struck out five and walked seven.

She also cracked five hits and drove in two runs, as Marion Center improved to 2-0 overall.

Northern Cambria (2-2 overall, 1-2 conference) got two RBIs from Bre Sabella and two hits from Brooke Bernard.

DAVIDSVILLE – Conemaugh Township beat Altoona, 12-3, in junior high action. The Lady Lions slipped to 0-2.

JV: Conemaugh Township, 16-1.

Peck throws one-hitter

MILL HALL – Philipsburg-Osceola’s junior high A team defeated Central Mountain, 1-0, before losing 10-4 in the second game.

Maggie Peck pitched a complete-game, one-hit shutout for P-O in the first game. The A squad is 1-1.

In the B games, Central Mountain won 6-2 and 15-2. The P-O B team is 0-2.
