BG spikers top Altoona

Bishop Guilfoyle used a balanced attack to defeat visiting Altoona, 26-24, 25-10, 25-22, in high school boys volleyball on Monday at the Pleasant Valley Gymnasium.

Brennan Hurd had 14 service points for BG (2-1), while Ben Kasun logged eight kills, 29 assists and six service points. Jamey Brumbaugh had 13 digs and three service points for the Marauders, who also got eight kills and seven service points from Damon Rickens and 11 kills and three service points from Nick Little.

Altoona (1-2) was led by Tanner Baumgartner’s eight kills, six service points and 11 assists. Brett Koehle had seven kills, and Kody Clawson added 17 digs for the Mountain Lions.

Bellwood routs Glendale

BELLWOOD – Emily Nagle, Jacqueline Finn and Taylor Payne drove in two runs each, and Bellwood-Antis drew 10 walks in a 15-0 three-inning high school softball victory over Glendale.

Payne tossed a one-hit shutout and struck out eight batters.

Glendale juniors prevail

BELLWOOD – Kyla Holtz pitched a complete-game win, striking out 11 batters in seven innings, as Glendale topped Bellwood-Antis, 11-7, in junior high girls softball.

Holtz also rapped out two hits and drove in a run. Sarra Ruffner and Anna Fowler had two RBIs apiece for Glendale.

Edyn Convery had four hits and knocked in three runs for Bellwood.
