Smith paces Mountain Lions’ win

Aaron Smith had 16 service points for the Altoona boys volleyball team as it defeated DuBois, 25-13, 25-7, 25-21, on Tuesday night.

Kody Clawon added 10 service points and 12 assists for the Mountain Lions, as they picked up their first victory of the season.

Lady Tigers tumble

WILLIAMSPORT – The Hollidaysburg softball team opened its season on Tuesday with a 3-2 loss at Williamsport.

The Lady Tigers led 2-0 after four, thanks to a two-run homer by Hannah Mercer, who plated Krista Shay, who had reached on a single to start the inning. Mercer also tripled in the game.

Williamsport scored two in the bottom of the seventh to win it, one on an error and one on a single.

Tussey tennis falls to Juniata

MIFFLINTOWN-Aaron Duvall won his singles match for the Tussey Mountain boys’ tennis team, as it fell to Juniata, 6-1.

Duvall trailed in both sets, 3-1, but battled back in each to record the victory.

BC juniors sweep Hollidaysburg

HOLLIDAYSBURG – Bishop Carroll defeated Hollidaysburg, 25-15, 25-22, in junior high girls volleyball.

Rebecca Kwisnek had 11 service points and Jordyn Platt had 10 assists for Bishop Carroll. Bishop Carroll is 1-0.

JV: Bishop Carroll, 28-26, 25-8

Bellwood junior girls lose

STATE COLLEGE – The Bellwood-Antis girls junior high volleyball team evened its record at 1-1 after falling to Mount Nittany, 25-18, 25-17.

Stephanie Mills had three kills, two blocks and a dig, while teammate Tara Baker had two aces, two digs and one kill.

Bellwood’s eighth grade team also fell, 25-23, 25-22.
